What is employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or other employment with the purpose of obtaining authorisation as a doctor, dentist or as a nurse?

If you hold a residence permit to obtain authorisation as a doctor, a dentist or as a nurse, you must learn the Danish language and pass the tests required to obtain a Danish authorisation. Moreover, you must complete an employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse).

A residence permit with the purpose of obtaining a Danish authorisation as a doctor, a dentist or as a nurse does not allow you to work. 

Therefore, you must apply for a work permit to be permitted to do employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse). 

If you hold a residence permit with the purpose of obtaining a Danish authorisation as a doctor or a dentist, you are not allowed to work.

If you wish to take a job in addition to the language courses and tests required to obtain a Danish authorisation as a doctor, a dentist or as a nurse, you must apply for a work permit based on a specific job offer.

As the permit only allows you to work, the permit cannot form the basis for a separate residence and work permit.

What are the conditions?

When applying for employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse), you must attach a temporary authorisation (evalueringsautorisation) issued by the Danish Patient Safety Authority.

Salary and temrs of employment must correspond to Danish standards. This means that your salary, holiday entitlements, terms of notice etc. must not be inferior to the standards within the professional field where you are going to work.

When you apply, you must attach a copy of your employment contract or job offer. All terms of employment must be stated on the contract or the job offer.

If SIRI has any doubts whether your salary and terms of employment correspond to Danish standards, we can ask experts in the field, e.g. one of the regional labour market councils, to assess your terms of employment. 

Your potential job, aside from the employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse), must not necessarily be naturally related to your authorisation process (i.e. the process of learning the Danish language and passing the test  required to obtain a Danish authorisation as a doctor or a dentist).

It is a special access to employment that you only have while holding a residence permit with the purpose of obtaining a Danish authorisation as a doctor or a dentist.

An employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) will typically be a full-time employment.

There are no specific requirements that other employment must be full-time.

However, you should be aware that you must have enough time to follow language lessons, healthcare education and other courses.

What are my rights, if I am granted a permit?

You are only allowed to work in the position and in the hospital or company that you have been granted a permit to work in.

Please note that your work permit can expire before your residence permit. 

If you are offered a new employment for adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or another new job, you must apply for a new permit. You must not begin working before you have been granted a new permit. This also applies if you are offered a new position in the hospital or company.

What is the maximum duration of an employment for adaption or training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or another job?

You can be granted a permit valid for the period of your employment with adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or for the period of another employment – however, the duration cannot exceed  the validity of your residence permit.

You can apply for extension of your permit for employment with adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or for another job if you are still employed and if you still meet the requirements of your residence permit  with the purpose of obtaining a Danish authorisation as a doctor or a dentist.

What should I do if I lose my job or find a new one?

You must always inform SIRI if your employment for adaption and traning purposes (evalueringsansættelsen) is stopped before time, if you lose your job or if you find a new one.

Your permit for employment with adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or for another employment is limited to the job that your permit is based on. You are not allowed to work in other positions than the one stated on your permit. This also applies if you are offered a new position in the same company.

If you find a new job, you must submit a new application for a work permit with information on your new employment. 

You must not begin your new job before you have been granted a new permit.

Your work permit lapses if your residence permit with the purpose of obtaining Danish authorisation as a doctor or a dentist is revoked or denied extension.

An application for employment with adaption and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse) or for other employment is processed by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

On the “How to apply” tab to the right, you find the relevant application form, XG4.

Your employer must fill in the second part of the form.

SIRI will contact you or your employer if we need further information to process your case.

Please note that no fee is charged for this type of application.

You and your employer are each required to complete a part of the form.

In this step you and your employer have access to the relevant application form. 

Make sure that you have completed all the preceeding steps before you begin.

Application form

In the printable application form XG4 your employer must complete part 2 of the form. When your employer has completed his or her part, you must complete your part. Once parts 1 and 2 have been completed, they must be submitted together – read more in the next step.

You must submit the necessary documents with the application.

The printable application form in Word format can be completed on screen before you print. The application form in pdf format must be printed first and then completed by hand.

When you apply for a work permit, you must have your biometric features (facial photo and signature) recorded. You facial photo will be stored on a microchip on the work card, which will be issued to you if you are granted a permit.

If you submit your application in one of SIRI's branch offices, your biomtric features will be recorded when you submit the application.

If you submit your application to SIRI using our contact form, you must also book an appointment to have your biometrics recorded.
