Working Holiday scheme has been suspended temporarily

The Minister for Immigration and Integration has decided to temporarily suspend all Working Holiday agreements. This means that the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) until further notice stops issuing new residence permits for Working Holiday.

The suspension is due to the current coronavirus/COVID-19 situation, in which foreign nationals without residence permit will be refused entry to Denmark at the Danish border, unless they have a worthy purpose for entry into Denmark. In connection with this, the Danish Minister for Immigration and Integration has decided to temporarily suspend all Working Holiday agreements.

The purpose of the Working Holiday scheme is to give young people from Denmark and countries that have entered into a Working Holiday agreement with Denmark the possibility to learn about each other's culture and way of life and thereby promote mutual understanding between these countries. The intension behind the one year long stay must primarily be holidaying for an extended period and secondarily working in order to supplement travel funds and/or to complete a study or educational programme of limited duration.

Foreign nationals who have already obtained a residence permit under the Working Holiday scheme will still be able to enter Denmark.
