The Danish Immigration Service suspends certain cases due to an error in the Criminal Register
The Danish Immigration Service is, for the time being, suspending the processing of pending cases in which an error in the Criminal Register may affect case processing.
This includes, among others, cases in which crimes committed in Denmark may be relevant to whether the applicant meets the conditions for a residence permit.
Case types being suspended by the Danish Immigration Service:
- Applications for permanent residence
- Certain applications for family reunification
If your case is covered, this means that the Danish Immigration Service is, for the time being, unable to finalise the processing of your case.
Reason for the suspension
On 2 September 2026, the Ministry of Justice informed the Danish Parliament that the Danish National Police had become aware of an error in the Criminal Register, and that the Danish National Police is investigating the scope of the error and its consequences for a number of case types.
On this basis, the Ministry of Immigration and Integration has asked the Danish Immigration Service, the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), and the Danish Return Agency to suspend, for the time being, the processing of cases in which the error in the Criminal Register may affect case processing.
The error does not give rise to suspending cases at the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration or the Danish Return Agency.
