The processing of asylum cases concerning individuals from Syria remains suspended and the situation in Syria will have an impact on the handling of certain other cases concerning individuals from Syria and their family members.
Processing of asylum cases remains suspended
On December 10, 2024, the Danish Immigration Service decided to suspend the processing of asylum cases concerning individuals from Syria. This decision is still pending.
The suspension followed the decision by the Refugee Appeals Board’s Coordination Committee to halt the processing of cases involving individuals from Syria due to the highly unstable situation in the country following the fall of the Assad regime. On January 16, 2025, the Coordination Committee decided to uphold the suspension.
Other cases also affected
The fall of the Assad regime also impacts the Danish Immigration Service’s processing of certain other cases involving individuals from Syria and their family members. This includes, for example, certain cases concerning the extension of residence permits for refugees from Syria, certain cases regarding family reunification for refugees from Syria and certain cases concerning permanent residence permits for individuals with pending extension applications. Some of these cases will also be suspended. For more information, please visit the information page specifically targeted individuals from Syria and their family members via the link below.
