Suspension of the visa-facilitation agreement between Denmark and Russia
Denmark has decisded to suspend the visa-facilitation agreement between Denmark and Russia in accordance with the Council of the European Union’s decision 2022/1500 of 9 September 2022 about suspension of the visa-facilitation agreement between EU and Russia.
The suspension of the visa-facilitation agreement between Denmark and Russia means that applications for short term visas will be processed in accordance with the regular applicable visa rules in the Visa Code and the Visa Executive Order. Russia is moved from main group 3 to main group 5
On 10 September 2022 a new Visa Executive Order comes into force. The adjustment of the Visa Executive Order concerns Russia moving from group 3 to group 5 of countries with a visa requirement.
The adjustment apply for all applications for short term visa submitted by Russian citizens from and including 10 September 2022. The adjustment will not apply on applications submitted by Russian citizens before 10 September 2022.
This means that the applications for short term visa from Russian citizens will be processed in accordance with the practice for processing of applications from citizens of countries in main group 5, if the application is submitted from and including 10 September 2022. Citizens from countries in main group 5 can normally only qualify for visas to private visits if there are extenuating circumstances, such as the death or terminal illness of a family member living in Denmark. The can be granted a visa to business or cultural visits in specific justified cases.
