Will a labour conflict affect your residence permit?

A large part of the Danish labour market has given notice of a potential labour conflict starting in April 2018. This is due to the latest round of collective bargaining taking place in the state, regional and municipal sectors.

If you have been granted a residence and work permit based on work, it is important to know the following:

  • Your permit will not be revoked, if you are affected by a strike or lock-out as a consequence of a legal labour conflict during the validity period of your permit.
  • It is a condition that you are re-instated in your position, once the legal conflict is over.
  • It is not possible to be granted a new residence and work permit, if you are offered employment by a company or institution encompassed by a legal conflict.
  • You must submit an application for an extension before your current permit expires. This continues to apply even if you are affected by a strike or lock-out.
