Before you contact us, read about what you can expect, and find the answers to the most common questions.
You will be assisted by a member of staff who can speak Danish and English.
The person you communicate with is not the case worker handling your case and is therefore not familiar with all the details of your case.
SIRI can provide general guidance on the different residence and work permit schemes and their requirements. However, we cannot help you choose which scheme to apply under. You can read about the different schemes here on newtodenmark.dk.

We cannot:

tell you exactly when you will receive an answer to your application.

say whether you will be granted a permit before we have processed your application.

assess which scheme you should apply under.

speed up the processing of your case.

put you in touch with the case officer handling your case.

assess whether you can be granted a permit if you reapply after getting a refusal.

We know that you would like an answer quickly. SIRI cannot tell you the exact status of your case or when we will make a decision.
SIRI or the embassy will contact you if we need additional information or when we have made a decision on your case.

Processing times vary from case to case – they depend on the circumstances of your case.

Without a power of attorney
SIRI can only provide you with information about another person’s case if you have sent us a power of attorney. This applies even if the person in question is a family member or friend.

With a power of attorney
You can contact SIRI on behalf of the applicant as you will act as their representative in the case. This means that you will be provided with all the information relating to the case.

Call with the applicant
You can grant a verbal power of attorney over the phone if you and the applicant are both on the call to SIRI.
The applicant must be able to understand and answer our questions themselves.
If you see a confirmation on screen when you send us something via newtodenmark.dk, we have received it. This applies whether you submitted an application, a question, documentation or something else.
We will also send a receipt to the email address you provided. If you are able to receive Danish Digital Post, you may have received a receipt where you receive Digital Post. You are only able to receive Danish Digital Post if you have a Danish CPR number.
If you have not received a receipt
If you have not seen a receipt either on screen or via email, please try and send your question, application or documentation again.
I have not received my residence card
You must register your address with the local authority to receive your residence card. It can take up to 8 weeks from the time you register your address until you receive your residence card.
Less than 8 weeks since registration
Contact SIRI only when 8 weeks have passed since you registered your address with the local authority. Only then can we help you look into the matter.
More than 8 weeks since registration
Call SIRI. We will then look into why you have not received your card and help you take the next steps.
If you need a new residence card because you lost your old one or your personal data has changed, you need to apply for a new residence card.
If you are in Denmark
Book an appointment to have your biometric data recorded as soon as possible. Afterwards, write to SIRI and let us know the date of your appointment.
If you do not notify SIRI, we may reject your application.
If you are abroad
Contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if you are unable to book an appointment to record your biometric features at the embassy. They can advise you on where you can record your biometric features at an alternative embassy or VFS centre.

When you have an appointment, write to SIRI and tell us the date of your appointment.
If you do not notify SIRI, we may reject your application.
SIRI cannot say when we will make a decision in your case regarding a refund of your fee. This depends on the specific case.
If you are entitled to a refund of the fee, we will process the refund after we have made a decision on your case. Please note that it may take some time between the decision and when you receive the refund. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you when you will receive the refund.

SIRI cannot assess in advance whether you can be granted a residence permit in Denmark. We also cannot tell you which residence and work scheme you should apply under. Instead, follow the guidance below and read about the different residence and work schemes on our website.

You are a third-country national

If necessary, call SIRI for guidance before sending your application.
You are an EU citizen
If you are an EU citizen, you must apply under EU rules.
You must complete an OD1 application form.

Wait to pay the fee until you are absolutely sure which scheme you want to apply under.
If you do not meet the conditions
If you do not meet the conditions of any of SIRI's residence schemes, you can, as a general rule, only stay in Denmark as a tourist. You must still meet the rules for a visa or visa-free stay.
