New rules for interns within the green sector

On 1 July 2022 new rules will apply for interns within the green sector.

Among other things, the new rules are intended to secure the access of colleges of vocational training to places of internship, as well as secure interns’ access to complain in the case of disputes.

This means that from 1 July 2022 onwards, a foreign national can only be granted a residence permit as an intern in sectors with a general lack of places of internship if the applicant’s place of internship already has already employed Danish interns or has tried in vain to do so.

Consequently, all applications in sectors with a general lack of places of internship submitted from 1 July 2022 onwards must include a signed declaration from the place of internship that they have employed an intern from a Danish college of vocational training, or that they have sought to do so within the past three months prior to the application being submitted.

This declaration along with a list of sectors with a general lack of places of internship will be made available prior to the new rules taking effect.
Furthermore, the new rules make it easier for the Danish authorities to oversee foreign interns within the green sector and ensure that disputes between a foreign intern within the green sector and the place of internship can be brought before the relevant body: Det faglige udvalg for jordbrugets uddannelser, or, if an agreement cannot be reached, Tvistighedsnævnet.
